Giorgio Armani has always been a big fan of Tadao Ando’s work. They both share a design philosophy that is characterized by a clean, understated aesthetic. This aesthetic, for which the fashion designer became famous, is reflected in their collaborative works.
The Armani Teatro, a monumental structure that serves as the headquarters and theatre, stands as a testament to the impact of their first collaboration in 2001.
The space, which includes a catwalk and ample seating area, has hosted a bevy of fashion shows throughout the years, setting an elegant stage for various performances and special events linked to the house’s main runway collections.
The evocative building is an impressive display of Ando’s grid-like architecture infused with Giorgio Armani’s signature grey-hued palette and distinctive character.
The second collaboration, a fashion museum, was inaugurated in 2015 to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary of its founding. This museum, a testament to their enduring partnership, showcases about 600 fashion garments and 200 accessories from the 1980s to the present, offering a comprehensive journey through the evolution of the Armani brand.
